Race maps on DDNet?
Recently there were discussions about adding some more race maps or even an entire race server to DDNet. I'd like to put it to a vote to see where people stand on this. Comments and reasons are also very welcome.
For me personally race is a subset of DDNet solo, so we could add a subcategory on DDNet solo for "oldschool / race" maps.
Old discussion was here mostly: http://forum.ddnet.tw/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=692

Re: Race maps on DDNet?
Add the best challenging maps to DDnet no maps that are just point givers couse you can just run thru them without any skill
Re: Race maps on DDNet?
I vote :
Don't add race maps to DDNet.
Just saying, if you wanna play race, play on race server, if you wanna have points on race, play teerace.
If you wanna have race on DDNet, then ddnet could open a race server I guess.
But no race on DDRace. DDRace means multiplayer race, not solo race.

Re: Race maps on DDNet?
I think its cool to have some races on DDNet server, but only release long runs, because like Ama said, they shouldnt be point givers.
Here are some maps that I would suggest, to be released:
run_get_50
run_grass_hell
run_skizz_popo
nameless run
run_hard_hundred

Re: Race maps on DDNet?
I don't mind 4 or 5 race maps added to the solo server, but generally, I am with laxa on this one.
(Even though your last sentence lacks logic. :p solo server is also not multiplayer but still called DDRace :p)

Re: Race maps on DDNet?
For me the question is:
Are there enough good Race-maps to create an own server or own section on Solo-Server?
If yes create some, else just add the few good maps to actual Solo-Server.

So we should delete the whole Solo-Server and all dummy-maps like Skychase?laxa wrote:DDRace means multiplayer race, not solo race.

Re: Race maps on DDNet?
i have a similar argument like hi_leute_gll,
we already added maps from another style of (dd)race: gores and or fly maps
so what is the problem of adding race maps?
i voted for "Add the few best race maps to DDNet solo server without a category"
it feels great to finish a really hard and or long race map, so why not add this feeling?

Re: Race maps on DDNet?
All race maps should be on race server, that's what I say.
Dummy drag is ddrace.

Re: Race maps on DDNet?
I would love to see an entire race server by ddnet. Believe me there are more than enough really good and fun race maps. Most of them just need a quick clean-up and some minor fixes to be releaseable.. Oh, and although short races might be nice as well, we should only add middle and longruns to the new server.
However, we can alternatively just add the best maps to the solo servers without creating an extra category or even a whole new server. Like Welf said, we already released quite a few maps with another style (fly, gores etc.), so why should we suddenly stop that.. Of course then we should definitely just add the harder ones, like run_skizZPopo, hard_hundred, run_get50 and so on (:
