Are these ban's going to be permanent??? If so here are my thoughts
Cheating has always been a problem & always will be, especially when Ranks are involved
Banning the names of those caught cheating (or just being suspicious) and those thought to be involved, will not stop them from cheating But It Will change the names they use when doing so, whether the names they choose to use is there own, something new or just an innocent player, banning whose name's will Solve Nothing.
bottom line, thanks to the anonymity of ddnet (which we love) anyone can play with any name, so if you ban a name it's anyones best guess if you actually brought justice to the right person, or you just punished some unlucky player (sad), with a "life" sentence you offer no reason for redemption instead you breed rebellion
on the surface this will only affect a few, but it leaves the rest of us in fear that we too could be banned for life, by that of dislike by the admins or be framed by another player, either way this put's a dark shadow over DDnet, and tasks the admins with the job of deciding "to ban or not to ban" which can be easily jaded by favor over one compared to another
My suggested course of action. ban the names in question and future player's found to be cheating, for some period less then two month's. this gives the player motivation for redemption, and if a player Is wrongly banned then whey can still have fun in the mean time knowing all they're effort is not lost. because you can't fix people there is no such thing as a solution, but i feel that this is a compromise that will give you most of the benefits without all the drawbacks
edit: iv'e looked into this "chillerbot.png" & it's not even for cheating, i don't see the problem.

Re: Botting
I don't like it. Bans are always a bad idea. But especially this time where players lost their main Accounts you just motivate them to go in total destruction mode. It creates hate, revenge and war.

Re: Botting
And so?
They used a bot, so they must take the consequence,
and HahaXD is actually right, deleting all points just makes sense, since nobody can tell how long they are already botting.
It has nothing todo with hate or revenge. I think every normal human being knows that cheating in a competitive game should lead to total exclusion of the game. So it's their task alone to accept the consequence without any complain. Harsh but fair!
The admins are even kind enough to allow the players move to a new name.

firstly this game is not set up to give players consequences because there is no way to hold them liable, sense they can cheat using Your name, and it would be your task alone to accept the consequences "without any complain"

Re: Botting
Keks but it isnt a competative game.
And they actually CAN see if you botted since teehistorian. Everything before it can't be proven and thus can't be punished like they didnt with roco and saro

Re: Botting
my idea: if i understand correctly, every cheat (bot i mean) based on Lua as a code. What if we add a system on every server that blocks every client to join to the server, if the server finds these "Lua" codes on your client as a cheat (bot again). Maybe useful, maybe not. :/

Re: MR. small name
1. I never said they should do it without being sure the real one bottet
2. They can check ips and check them under geoip, or ask other players about their recent activities.
3. Some of the affected ppl even said they used bot, where is the doubt?
And corneum's ... Where is a ranked based game not competitive?
