For 2016

Post by Pathos »

https://ddnet.tw/funding/#donations

This page is not updated. What is the necessary funding for 2016?

I'm curious to know some statistics on how often/long the servers are full. Which servers have the highest number of players? Suffers most from DDOS? etc.?

What is the projected growth for 2016?

What are some of the planned features? Are there going to be any expansion of features from DDNet clients and servers relevant outside of DD, for example vanilla features? How about some kind of merge with Teerace (race.teesites.net)? etc.

How is data collection going to be improved for 2016? (I'd be glad to run some numbers)

I think we were always rather spontanous than planning everything 3 months ahead.

Even though I consider spontaneousness to be a virtue I would really like to know something more about the future of DDNet. Not so long ago DDNet was in some serious trouble and it was said DDNet was going to be shut down, which was a very saddening news. Fortunately DDNet survived and from what I see lurking on the forum everything seems to be going well. However, I'd really want to know what is DDNet's strategy for the weeks and months to go. For instance are there any plans about new servers? I really enjoy playing on DDNet but since all the servers are in other countries than my own I usually have a mediocre ping which causes me to fail miserably (which is frustratring after a few times). One more thing I would like to know is how much longer do you think DDNet will stay alive? I am asking this since I might be intrusted in donating something to help DDNet out but if it will shutdown in a month that will just be a waste of money - no offense of course.

Anyways, I didn't have the opportunity to mention it anywhere else so I'll do it here. I am really happy to see things are going well with DDNet. Keep up the good work guys and girls!

Why this long? Because DDNet keeps running! (yet again)

In the next hour(s) also client will be released.

With this said, everyone is more than welcome to help in testing section, as I guess it would be lovely to release some maps, right?

//I'm closing this topic so nobody will skip this message by accident. Hopefully we will never have to reopen it.
He specifies the website and forum, but not game servers.

Conclusion: We really don't know.

Deen don't want to accept donations.

Because people could complain, like you.

One thing you have to know, donations are completly free and voluntary, you can't complain about what is done with that money (it is obiously spend in ddnet), you get what i mean right?

And that's why there is no 2016 bar (or atleast my conclusion) At the moment donations are dificult imo, because no one knows if ddnet will keep running, and people only donate if they see that server will continue.
So ddnet is in a bad moment even if right now we don't see it.
Buuuuuut, it's my opinion :P

Just to begin, I really hate when people say I do things I didn't do. I haven't complained at all in my comment. All I said was that I wanted to know what the future of DDNet is going to be.

Trust me, I know what a donation is. However this does not change the fact that I would like to know what might actually happen with that money since donating and then, after a week or so, realising that DDNet is shutting down might be frustrating.

Anyways, the conclusion is nobody knows what's happening with DDNet. That's all i wanted to know.

I guess you already noticed that things are not always ending as they were planned (or at least since deen "retired" >.>)
Anyway, as Lady Saavik pointed, most stuff is spontaneous - when someone mentions something or throws an idea and there's someone willing to realize it - so please don't expect anything like "The Great List of Amazing Things for January and February", though if there is something really planned and code-related, I believe you will be able to find it on DDNet's github.

Most of the answer which I could give you already read as reply to the above quote. Maybe not everything is going well, but surely could be worse. Nevertheless, DDNet is working, and not going to be shut down in near future - maybe I will convince you and others with the below list.

To maybe convince you that DDNet is going to run for longer than "week or so":
Servers
  • DDNet.tw (forum & website): prolonged for whole 2016
  • GER: prolonged for whole 2016
  • USA: was purchased in 2015 and will run until ~July, then will be prolonged further
  • CAN: still sponsored by by o_tee_one
  • CHN: still sponsored by TsFreddie
  • Brazil: still sponsored by RafaelFF
  • South Africa: still sponsored by lordtheuns
Staff & such
  • New admin: dinner
  • New moderators: Pantoja, Would?
  • New trial moderators ("helper" status): Noez, RayB., Ryozuki, Spyker, Eagle
  • Skin Database has new managers: Ryozuki, Skyrel
  • Hall of Fame is relaunched with known video makers on board: Aoe, dinner, Fňokurka oo7, Ryozuki
  • There is new post on Facebook every few days
Other
  • (Soon) "dummy maps" will get got own category
  • (Soon) There will be releases of NUT maps
  • On servers you can see announcement (yellow message on chat) saying "We need your support! Donate to DDNet to make it run longer."
  • You no longer have to be logged in on forum to see The Team page or to browse users profiles
  • There is - yet again - progress on new website project
  • Generally there are small fixes & improvements added from time to time (just look at github history)
