Hi there...
I was thinking about a way to make DDnet a little easier to maintenance...
I think that it could be added some adds to the forum, and even on a section on the launcher (like news or servers, a new tab), to gain visits and earn some money from publicity, so that will make server costs a little more handle.
Either, I saw many fakers on servers, so, it could be a registration on the launcher, like a login, to connect and save your ranks, records, points, etc. connected to the forum account of the player...
I know that adds are annoying, and not well seen by anyone, but it could bring some economical help to the project...
That's all, it's just a suggestion, anyone can say wathever he thinks, thank you!
Sorry about the english, salutes from Argentina...
PD: login will bring little more traffic to the forum, making it even more reditable with adds

Please adds no, thats the worst think you can do.
Trust me, also people (me included) would find a solution to disable them on the client.

Re: [Suggestions]
Thanks for the suggestion and trying to help DDNet, but I'm unconditionally against any form of advertisement.
- Advertisements are annoying
- Ads steal people's attention in a world that's already overloaded with information and attention-grabbing stuff
- Ads actually work, even if you try to ignore them you still end up recognizing brands from advertisements and are more likely to buy them
- They are a security risk, often used by malicious people to inject malware into a website simply by buying an advertisement
- They are a privacy risk, giving away your data to advertisers who collect this kind of data worldwide and make extensive profiles about you. Even if you trust the advertisers, this data might be stolen from them.
- When you have advertisements, the goal is no longer to be good for the sake of being good. The new goal is to get as many ad-views as possible, so you have to attract as many people as possible, no matter if the quality of the content is good or not.

yes after the first ddnet discussion about quitting, everyone said i can donate money if you need it, but nobody does it.
i think the homepage should say how many we need in 2016 to still run the current stuff and if we do not get that in time, the community is not big enough for all the servers so we should cut in them. And if people are donating they should tell in which servercountry they normally play. RUS, GER or CHILL) then we also know in which servers the most community attracted people are.
For example: if nobody donates for chillean servers then why should people from other countries pay for it.

People don't donative because they don't know if ddnet will keep alive. (i think)n000b wrote:yes after the first ddnet discussion about quitting, everyone said i can donate money if you need it, but nobody does it.

Many people from Chile are poor and/or too young to donate. Now you want to punish them for beeing born in Chile?n000b wrote: For example: if nobody donates for chillean servers then why should people from other countries pay for it.

Re: [Suggestions]
but i think there should be on the home page what is needed to run ddnet in 2016. So everyone can see that we need money. Now we only see 2013-2014 is not paid by donations but nobody gives a fuck because it is already paid. If you say it like, we need to get that amount from donations to run all the servers like it is now for 2016. Then people realise that you will cut in the ammount of servers if there are not enough donations. imo this will push more people to donate.

So that's why all my sites and projects will stay ad-free. I think we could finance DDNet by donations if we tried. For other projects a subscription or small-payment model could work.
