All about .demo

This thread is about .demo files. It's also the perfect thread to ask your question about them. But let's start with the basics.
As of 2021, the information might be slightly outdated. There are a lot of new features added in recent versions, but you'll certainly figure them out :3
Currently there are three different types of recorders with the ddnet client.
Manual recorder Start by pressing Esc -> Record demo, stop the same way. Gets saved in demos/demo_date.demo
Race recorder Enable in Settings -> DDNet -> Save the best demo of each race. Does exactly that on any race-like server (Race, DDRace, DDNet, ...). Starts at the start line. Only saves the best demo in demos/Map_time.demo, removes the demo if you didn't get a new record.
Auto recorder Enable in Settings -> Game -> Automatically record demos. Records and saves everything you ever do on a TW server. Gets saved in demos/auto/autorecord_date.demo
View the .demo-files in the tab ‘Demos’, you can also sort them by name and date.
How to Cut a demo file?
Open a .demo file with teeworlds.
We need the three buttons around my mouse cursor. With the far left one you set the first red line, here will start your new demo-file, then set an end with the middle button and finally save the new demo with the little camera button on the right.
How to record or export demo files?
The n-client (& then h-client) can convert .demo to another file format directly. If you don’t want or can use that, you have to record the screen with a capture program and then edit this footage. HMH is also working on an implementation for the ddnet client.
