DDNet Shutdown - What Now?

Post by Soreu »

DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
Frequently asked questions
  • What happened?
DDNet shall be shut down at Oct 1.

Will there be servers after it?
Currently there are plans to keep the servers running after the Oct 1, this will need some structural changes.

    Who is working on it?
A team of active players and staff members are caring about a new structure.

Will everything be like before again?
Servers could be kept like they are for the moment, but there will be structural changes in the future.

    How can I help?
Offer your help in our forum on ddnet.tw to support us where you can! We will contact you if we will need your help!

    What should I do now?
Wait for us to deal with this situation to offer you the best possible solution! Be sure we care about the community and we are not going to let it die! Just have some patience. We will soon be able to play together again!

Where can I play other mods, that were hosted by DDNet?
We try to keep the mods, wich haven't an active community outside of DDNet.
(For zCatch in Europe you can use the servers by teevision.eu as alternative.)

Will you host servers in known locations again?
We want to keep the known locations, nethertheless we may want to give the local managment to regional hosters. If you have experiences with hosting local servers please contact us in the forum!
This post will be updated as soon as we know more.

Wait, you guys are looking to host servers again? But when I asked you for help and said that I would shut down DDNet ~10 days ago, you wouldn't offer to help DDNet? So I guess you guys just wanted your own server project instead of DDNet, good luck with that. If there was ANYONE willing to keep DDNet running there would be no problem with keeping it running, but we searched for months and didn't find anyone. Setting up new servers is definitely more work than keeping DDNet running, so I guess this is not about the amount of work.

Oh come on! We didn't think we were poor... we though it was just a way for pay some contributors... we didn't get that ddnet would be off! We don't want another community, we want this one...

now that we have a lot of donations i think you can just help us for another week and then, when all will return back to normal, we will thank you 1000 times more after your ddnet project and you will give admin to another one... it's sad that you leave us but if you have to do it don't bring your community with you...

The main problem is that you never made the serious decision to shut down the servers. We had no idea whether you are going to do it or not! If you were THAT serious and announced it, I guess we would have found a lot of motivated players out of our community, as it is now!
But like this you did'nt give community the chance to prepare, just to react.

Im still not quite sure whether we would have been able to keep on with complete DDNet anyway.
It's not an own project now. We try to save as much as possible. But this is such a little part of DDNet. You cant even call it DDNet anymore.

~ Thanks for what you've done in the last 2 years. But by shutting down all servers suddenly you will not be remembered as this maintainer in the memory of many players.

That's pretty clear to me.
