Question: Addition of /mods command feature
Description by chillerdragon:
I make this poll because I don't think it's fair to discuss this only in #developers chat on discord when a lot of active people don't use/check discord daily.
PR: https://github.com/ddnet/ddnet/pull/1001Typing '/mods' in chat prints an list of currently authed players in the message of the day format.
I think the motd format looks similar to the scoreboard and fits this task. For example you can bind the '/mods' command next to your scoreboard key and then swap between those to see who is online and who is authed. I didn't differ between moderators, helpers and admins. I just called them all moderators im not sure if this is perfect. But i thought sub categorys would be annoying or writing each rank after the name would blow up the information and it also doesn't fit in one line if someone uses the name 'WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW'.

Re: Question: Addition of /mods command feature
This has no relation with this vote, i plan to do this on another PR which heinirich closed because he wanted.
https://github.com/ddnet/ddnet/pull/1000
Please don't base your vote on this comment. It literally has 0 relation.

Re: Question: Addition of /mods command feature
Yes it does. As heinrich wrote, what is the use of this command?
The only upside of this command that I can think of, would be to message moderators when you need their help.
But heinrich's suggestion makes that completely obsolete. It solves the same problem without all the other downsides (as discussed in the PR)

Re: Question: Addition of /mods command feature
If you are on a server and want to request help you can check the moderators online, you may also need for some reason do a private request to a moderator. This allows it too, 'cause it allows you to know the moderators name. You don't need to send a discord message requesting help if you have a moderator in the same server. It may also make trolls prevent or be more cautious when blocking/trolling as they know if there is a moderator on the sv. Not all people use discord too.
Re: Question: Addition of /mods command feature
If the list of moderators is public I see no use in this command being added in it's current state. I'd much rather have a /modhelp that sends out a message to discord.
Forums are not much more active than discord anyways.

Re: Question: Addition of /mods command feature
You know that most people playing in ddnet don't even visit the forum/website?
They always put in chat "who is moderator?" after a moderator does an action. Self-experience.
Re: Question: Addition of /mods command feature
It’s public but on the homepage in a not too obvious place wich I doubt the majority of players frequently checks and some probably never discovered it. If you advertise the /mods command properly, e.g. adding info about it to server announcements, it could be a lot more convenient than how it currently is.
Re: Question: Addition of /mods command feature
I usually check things out with a different name as blockers just stop when I join. I'll have to do login/logout juggling. Sure it's possible but it's inconvenient.
Either way, I don't mind it much but I think we'd be better served with a /modhelp command that pings discord. Instead of uncloaking mods.
