We love it :3
Although I still like your first TEST map the most, you definitely improve with every new map/animation. The amount of time that you (obviously) invest in such a map is huge and I'm really looking forward to yor next TEST-maps (but you already knew that ^.^)

Since few months I have an idea to help mappers with the backgrounds.
I don't want to make whole background for you, but give tools to do it.
Like few examples for sun, ready animated clouds, some doodads, rain, snow, maybe ideas for matching colors...
I know there are 873456983 styles, tastes and needs so I planned to make both, simple standard and creative strange things.
Maybe not everything will be pretty (for me) but it's not for me.
I don't need any credits if you use it (you can change and improve it if you need). It's free.
I don't have so many things to show yet, but maybe let's start with this and someday I will make and upload more. I will make big collection, but I need some time.
I encourage you to post your work too.
Please read descriptions.

I used to draw suns like that. Unfortunately you can't change the background color.

Small area full of stars. Good for smaller maps. Good night!

clouds1.png

clouds1.map
(3.41 KiB) Downloaded 189 times
Big area full of clouds. Flying clouds are boring - mine move, appear and disappear! Just like in real life.

Here few tips how to customize it:
SUNS:
rays can rotate clockwise (360.00) or counter clockwise(-360.00). Just drag the right point up or down (Hold ctrl to be more precise)
rays can rotate faster (less seconds) or slower (more seconds). Just drag the point to the left or right and look at first number
delete Pos. or Color Envelope if you don't need this effects
CLOUDS:
delete Color Envelope to have normal clouds, good animated. I saw many times how cloud just dissapears in the middle of screen
copy them to have moar but look how I placed them (left side)

Download the 'map' and use File -> Append to add it in your map, I deleted unnecessary layers and not used Images. Everything should be ok.
Right click on the group and play with Pos XY and Para XY.
Have fun. Love u all. Wait for more. And get ready for Halloween ;)

great work, Saavik :3
A few months ago I created a basic animated sun for my personal use in different maps. So, here it is (basically the same as sun1.map but animated :p)

Uhhh it's been 2 weeks since Halloween. Did you have fun?
People on DDNet too :>

I reworked 5 easy, somehow popular maps, it took me about 2 months. It was hard to think about 5 different styles. I didn't want to make everywhere pumpkins and black-red colors. Maps had to be playable. I worked on all maps at the same time: add something here, open other map and change color, bla bla... I had to make new images, edit ddnet-walls and grass_main a bit. It was fun. Mappers and players didn't know about anything. You can't find them on DDNet servers.
So let's start with:

[H]The Shire
[H]The Shire.map
(276.97 KiB) Downloaded 166 times
whole.png
whole.png (492.59 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
The idea was simple: black and white. I liked the map style so I made fancy background too, wrote something on the map ("Trick or treat?"), just like mappers did. The background was terrible to make:
background.png
background.png (698.07 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
I failed like 3 times with copying the stones. I just removed old bg and made everything new and mine. I had to make the bg not disturbing and somehow good visible. I needed few days to draw all the pictures and fill them with random stones. You can see a spider, zombie, 2 bats, spider's web, 2 skulls, big pumpkin and creepy face. Pretty cool.

In my dm1_saavik I animated the emotes so I stole ghost:
ghost.png
ghost.png (323.09 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
As you can see, there is nothing colorful on the map:
hallo.png
hallo.png (352.16 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
But still, I love it.

********************************************************************
[H]Purple Panic aka Pumpkin Panic, like deen said

(490.84 KiB) Downloaded 156 times
whole.png
whole.png (99.13 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
Actually, it is no more "purple":
colors.png
colors.png (148.61 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
I decorated the map with spider's webs and dark spikes (don't worry, they don't hurt)
It's my favorite remake. It's just pretty, isn't it?
Background and freeze colors are like swamps. Orange is pumpkin. Red and black - vampire. Pretty halloweenish.

With few layers I made angry, animated sun following you:
sun.png
sun.png (62.83 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
On the map you can find some hand prints and flying ghosts:
hand.png
hand.png (105.55 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
batghost.png
batghost.png (171.02 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
I draw 2 bats, because I had place on the map. Here the bigger one, hard to see while playing:
batbig.png
batbig.png (112.96 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
Because the background was so empty, I tried to make something with jungle_midground. But I wanted to make it transparent, so I had to use only 1 layer. What a challenge!
But guess what:
busch.png
busch.png (134.86 KiB) Viewed 5123 times
I made it! Was it even possible?!

I am so proud of myself.

I will post Kobras halloween versions sometime, maybe this week, all together.
Thanks for reading.
Or only looking at pictures.
Feel free to use everything I made.

And here it is!
[H]Kobra
[H]Kobra.map
(584.91 KiB) Downloaded 131 times
I started to make halloween series with this map. It was obvious.
I spent many hours making the background (original triangular background inspired me). This is only 1 layer:
background1.png
background1.png (38.81 KiB) Viewed 5027 times
I'm very happy with this, how it looks. Exactly what I wanted. Dracula, ghost, pumpkin and bats. I have to say, sometimes I just find the pictures in Google and draw them in game, but almost always I have to fix them more or less because some parts are ugly and not perfect. I couldn't find any pictures made with triangles so I had to do it on my own :(

Ofcourse I made the colors darker, made the wall red, used halloween doodads and spider's webs:
colors1.png
colors1.png (44.15 KiB) Viewed 5027 times
Everywhere on the map you can meet flying ghosts, which appear only for few seconds. I hope they didn't scare you too much!
ghosts1.png

[H]Kobra 2
[H]Kobra 2.map
(920.18 KiB) Downloaded 140 times
start2.png
start2.png (355.57 KiB) Viewed 5027 times
Boah, 920 kB.
Because the map is huge, I worked hard on the background - you can see it all the time.
Winds cause the trees to sway slowly. Pretty cool effect. Maybe it's simple but I had the idea at end.
Whole map is full of blood and bloody handprints (no ghosts). It feels weird when suddenly you see these red or black eyes looking at you and moving with you. But, this is what I wanted.
colors2.png
colors2.png (304.88 KiB) Viewed 5027 times
I think it was also long work to mark all teleports with darker shadows, with one more layer.

********************************************************************
[H]Kobra 3
[H]Kobra 3.map
(738.04 KiB) Downloaded 151 times
just3.png
just3.png (236.5 KiB) Viewed 5027 times
So here I have to tell a little story.
This was the last map I wanted to make. But I had no more ideas. I just made the background dark violet and started to make clouds, but I didn't like how it looks. Not rly halloweenish. I didn't know what to add, I didn't want to use the same doodads. So the solution was simple - no release, we have enough maps. But hey this is the newest Kobra :( So deen motivated me a bit, I finished the design at last day and tadaa.
just33.png
just33.png (296.78 KiB) Viewed 5027 times
I had to edit ddnet-walls image, because I needed something special for (un)hook and hookthr. I would say this design is fuzzy, faded, you know... I made the walls a bit transparent, added some subtle smoke everywhere, made left and right sides darker. Ye, I think it is a good combination.
Ah, I stole the clouds from my not finished, not publicated dm8_saavik so I have to make something else there ^^
just333.png
just333.png (311.12 KiB) Viewed 5027 times
Maybe it's strange, but I tested these maps too. I had to check if eyes and ghosts should appear more often, if things are good visible, if map is playable, how should I change the animations, bla bla. So I spent some time on test server too.
Will I make something like that for Christmas? No.
Can you do whatever you want with these maps? Yes.

Really great work, Lady Saavik. I love the Halloween maps. You can really tell how much work you put into them and they came out so atmospheric thanks to it.
