Serverside dummy actions

Post by teini94 »

Serverside dummy deep fly works perfect , so add serverside copy movement ,(and hammerfly) because more fairplay and fun and better (dummy dont get pushed out of tee while justcopyfly)

Test it with the map justcopyfly or let us teest it (us = kamilentee banzay teini)

Sure it works perfectly. The question is how to implement such a feature without ugly hacks. The server somehow needs to find out what tees are dummys and what players they belong to. We currently only have client-side dummys and it's a pretty bad idea to connect them with serverside-features.

Maybe we could replace the client-dummies with serverside-dummies, so even players with other clients (w/o dummy feature) can try out few more of our maps? It will be something like the iDDRace then I guess, but hopefully with better solution than spamming chat commands I hope ^^ (if even possible ofc)

I don't like the idea of controlling any connected players serverside. As east mentioned, it will always and up being hacky.

Plus I do not see a point in doing so anyways, maybe someone could point that out for me?

Lags/different ping between dummy and player = unable to "use" feature which for other players works well, like CopyFly / DeepFly, and all others which uses - and will use in future - dummy doing something at exact same moment as player... With serverside dummies this problem doesn't exist so far

You cant remove the dummy at this point anymore. There are several dummy maps, People love the dummy. And that will just cause a fork nothing more.
