Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
Well deen, u denied my help atleast 10 times I told you ill be there if you need me, any time but if you are unable to communicate with others its not our fault.
You said u searched for month, i cant believe that sorry because i know instantly 10 people who would keep ddnet alive as it is right now!
You never wanted our help, we saw it in many situations not only mine, so what can we do about it?
I think we should all stay together now and you? should maybe introduce some guys into ddnet, how everything works so they can keep it running?..
That would be the best case for everyone, if you would do it, idont know how you think about this.

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
I tried this with the most skilled and willing person I could find, but the final result for them was "it's too much work".Virus2k wrote:You never wanted our help, we saw it in many situations not only mine, so what can we do about it?

I think you can understand that I won't just give full access to DDNet server to some random people, had people wreaking havoc because of that before.
Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
I can fully understand that! I would not do that aswell but maybe there is a guy who is around for a long time, we all know and he likes to help?
Maybe we can just start a thread and asking for that guy to show up, if he shows up we can try stuff with him etc..
If he wont show up you/we should try our very best to keep atleast ddrace with a new server allive i would say

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
Exactly what I looked for, didn't find anyone, asked the admins for help 11 days ago, also explained the situation to the developers in #ddnet IRC channel, still didn't find anyone in that time, so now I see no other choice.Virus2k wrote:I can fully understand that! Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
It's pretty clear that noone of the community got informed by a little announcement in admin forum. I'm not sure whether you noticed it, but many of usual DDNet players are willing to support us right now, we could have had that before!deen wrote:In the admin area of the forum I wrote:Onion wrote:The main problem is that you never made the serious decision to shut down the servers. We had no idea whether you are going to do it or not! If you were THAT serious and announced it, I guess we would have found a lot of motivated players out of our community, as it is now!deen wrote:Wait, you guys are looking to host servers again? But when I asked you for help and said that I would shut down DDNet ~10 days ago, you wouldn't offer to help DDNet? So I guess you guys just wanted your own server project instead of DDNet, good luck with that. If there was ANYONE willing to keep DDNet running there would be no problem with keeping it running, but we searched for months and didn't find anyone.
But like this you did'nt give community the chance to prepare, just to react. That's pretty clear to me.deen wrote:I don't want to work on DDNet anymore and I don't think anyone is willing, has the time and is capable of replacing me, especially with maintaining the servers. So I will shut down the DDNet servers in a few days instead of letting them rot to an ugly death.

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
Well, what I got every day was insults, mockery and ddos attacks, no nice words or even offers for help. If you admins had an idea about finding helpers, you could've done that. I still don't see anyone who would be willing to keep DDNet running.Onion wrote:It's pretty clear that noone of the community got informed by a little announcement in admin forum. Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
I cant undrestand something, why it needs alot of time?
deen (or others) that know programming languages, you can spend 2-3-4 hours per day. isnt that enough? (ahh.. stopping nightly builds xD)
also for the servers, they dont need any hard skills (there are alot of admins around here)
I know that you can find hosters, (as i told to deen before) but there are DoS attackers everywhere, we can fight them xD
so why... (Distroy the 'i give up hole' xD)
also (ahh stop that) its too soon to stop ddnet community.. were getting new players (Yeah, i know the oldones are gone.. thats pretty sad) so why stopping the work
please deen dont.. change your mind
-- update > deen i agree. a little announcement in admin area wont inform people

To be honest, it's deens life - so you can't dictate him what to do.

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
The problem isn't to run a single server, the problem is the synchronization of servers all over the world.webshark25 wrote:I cant undrestand something, why it needs alot of time?
