Ping on German servers

Hey, I have a question regarding my ping on German servers. I play in the US and barely anyone plays, which is a shame because I get good ping on USA servers and Canadian servers. In Germany, however, there are servers that are filled to the brim with people, the only problem is that I get 180 ping over there. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can improve my ping besides relocating to Germany?

Playing with high ping is not as bad as you may think. I can play almost as well on GER as I can on USA servers (sometimes catching and hammerfly is weird though). Be sure to use antiping.

Whenever I use antiping, everyone on my screen spazzes out

That's normal. You can either ignore it or only enable antiping when the other player is in freeze.
bind x toggle cl_antiping 0 1

USA is about 8000 km away from Germany. So theoretically there is ping 27 possible. Thats quit good

Ye I know it would not happen because of several other reasons than physics

Ping is the latency to send a packet there AND get the answer. Optical fiber cables are used, which only achieve about 200.000 km/s. So that's 40 ms in one direction, 40 ms back, makes 80 ms in total for 8000 km. Actual ping from DDNet GER to a server in New York: 84 ms. (In truth New York is only 6000 km away, but there is never a perfect route and the signal has to be retransmitted often throughout the ocean.) So our connection looks just fine.

Some people DO invest a few millions to get a bit better ping though: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/ ... nds-faster
When it opens in 2013, Project Express will be the fastest cable across the Atlantic, reducing the time it takes data to travel round-trip between New York and London to 59.6 milliseconds from the current top speed of 64.8 milliseconds, according to Hibernia Atlantic. Those five milliseconds might not seem like a big deal, but to the handful of electronic trading firms that will have exclusive access to the cable, it will be a huge advantage.

Well did not thought about the "pong" of the ping and that the speed is actually that "slow".

btw I expected youll write a post here deen after i wrote mine
