Tune_Zones are Buggy

Post by Jeremyer »

Hi everybody!

Recently I have been getting into mapping and while playing with tuning Zones i notize some where stuff is happening.

Two off the worst behaviors were as followed.

First, when gravity is smaller than 0, the hooking around is just weird. I thought, when changing the gravity, hook should behaving like normally you just need to hook down, but it doesn´t. I tried different extra changes, but I think there is something in the Engine you can´t manipulate

Secondly if you play around with projectile curvature (Example: tune_zone 1 grenade_curvature -7). If you go in and out off different Zones the projectile is just buggy. For example the grenade teleporting around. The Problem is Tuning Setting for the projectile is the Zone where the Tee is, not where the projectile is and in the Background the Engine must calculate where the projectile should be.

I am not sure if those are intended or bugs. But if someone knows something about or has even a solution I would appreciate it.

Best regards

About hook: Yes, it has a different strength when hooking up and down and you can't change that, it's fixed into the code. This is to get hook physics that feel nice with normal gravity, but of course it breaks down when you play around with the gravity.

About tune zones: There should NEVER be a visible border between tune zones where people or projectiles can move between them. Tune zones are not predicted in the client, so any change in behaviour when entering and leaving tune zones will look buggy.

So both are known limitations. The hook could be changed by making it another tuning, but then it will only work in recent client and it's probably not a good idea. The second could be fixed by having the client simulate everything that the server does in order to predict perfectly. But this would be a major change.

Yeah I thought that it would be probalby something like that. But it is to bad it could have created new possibilities for maps.
