Is it worth it to learn 10 finger typing?
Is it worth it to learn 10 finger typing?
What experiences do you have with 10 finger typing?
Do you type faster now since you learned 10 finger typing?
And whats about programming using 10 fingers?
Isn't it complicated to type brackets and lots of special characters using 10 fingers?
These questions are especially for people who had there own typing system and learend 10 finger typing later.

I used to learn it. Furthermore I know how to write with 10 fingers but I never have used it because actually I wasn't faster with 10 fingers and nobody of the 25 ppl who learned it, write with 10 fingers anymore.

Re: Is it worth it to learn 10 finger typing?
I just wrote and wrote and after some time I trained a "system" wich works fine for me. But I don't really think about wich fingers I have to use or so, it happens all intentional.
As long as you are able to write fastly and without many fails and it feels good, there isn't any need to change it, I think.
Edit:
I also had such training-software, but mostly it helped me to learn where the keys are.

Re: Is it worth it to learn 10 finger typing?
I don't know if i got it as well, but i always write with ten finger and even so fast, i can write without looking.... when i was a child ( little one ) my only game was a "keyboard learning stupid stuff" and so i played it for month and now i feel so expert in it...
For me it is worth because it let you type so much faster and you can even talk with a friend while typing and... if someone is telling you to copy something to your PC, while she is talking you can do it faster...

No. It may teach you few handy things but if you master your own way you'll certainly be faster.

Re: Is it worth it to learn 10 finger typing?
First I learned 10 finger typing, then changed it a bit so it's easier for me. 10 finger typing is mostly faster than the 2 finger typing that many people do:
But mostly you don't need that much speed at writing, except when you're broadcasting during a DDNet Tournament maybe.
The main advantage is that your hands can lie still on the keyboard, so less pain and possibility of injury if you type a lot.
This is one of the most fun typing games: http://phoboslab.org/ztype/

Re: Is it worth it to learn 10 finger typing?
My brother uses it. He is a very fast typer and also developes stuff for a company where he is employed. Basically, the 10 finger system is very important unless you can type stuff very fast with your own method still looking at the screen. It's basically training. But as far as I know, if you have mastered the 10 finger system, it's a lot faster than using only 3-4 fingers because you have to move your fingers along the keyboard which will take its time
