Additional emoticons!

Post by Cyberpunk »

Idea for emoticons:

A lot of the emotions are the same when you press shift. A lot show up as angry. Perhaps we can replace some of those emoticons with a "Use hammer" or "use rocket" etc. Its a pretty cool idea I dont know if it is implementable.

People without DDNet-Client wont see it.

Imagine you choose the "Use hammer"-emoticon and a vanilla-player see a angry-emoticon.

But the consequence is the same

well they're able to put in custom skins, maybe they can add new without overlapping.
Why not another layer only for ddracing?

For example in the middle of the circle that pops up when your press shift? or maybe a new bind to make a new selection of emotions to pop up and for vanilla client nothing will pop up.

Hey all, I would like to re-open discussions on this idea.

It happens so often that you are too lazy to write in chat and still want someone to hammer you somewhere. And I personally like to play without text-chat, don't ask me why, but just communicating through tee-moves and emotes is somehow fun. It gives another feeling of teamplay when you both know what to do without writing it down.

So, my suggestion is: add 5 new emotes (all weapons) that vanilla client users can't see.

I think adding a different bind would be better, because its already easy to mistake emoticons (I sometimes use angry emote accidentally and then have to apologise for this, so tees won't feel like they irritated me or sth).
I guess vanilla users could see the "!" emoticon when we use DDNet ones. That way they won't be unnotified. ^^ Emoticons for hook and jump also would be nice, it'll be 8 emoticons if we count them and all weapons (assuming the pistol may be used in jetpack parts like Tiny Tandem beginning and ninja is necessary for the sake of completeness).
Also, what about the dead tee emote from this grid: http://forum.ddnet.tw/viewtopic.php?f=1 ... 858#p10841 - it's none in the original ones. Maybe we could also use the very sad eyes (reversed angry eyes) and some cry emote as an additional one - it's much more visible than the vanilla sad eyes (I personally used my tee with it, as a standard chat emote, few times xD). I think both (dead and very sad) emotes could create a sad emote in the vanilla client.

Anyway - if the idea got implemented I guess we should make an option to switch it off and a second option to disable the new eyes (that very sad ones). Even as a person who came up with the idea of that eyes, I'm not sure if it won't cause the same non-teeish feeling as most of the additional skins makes me feel (which I'm really glad I could turn off, but it's kinda sad I can't switch on only teeish ones). The same problem comes with new emotes.

Suggestions are more likely to be accepted when they don't require hours and hours of work. :p (emotes for jump --> need graphic work done) So, I agree with your ideas, Fifi, but it seems like they add a ton of work for just a little more profit. I'd be more than happy with 5 weapon-emotes.

But seems like not many others think this is needed :p write in here if you think it would be cool! i bet deen or whoever would include new emotes if we had many voices here demading it ^^

Well, new emoticons really might benefit teamplay and I personally don't like chatting ingame. Someone should probably draw a sketch on how new emoticons for ddnet should look like and make a poll.

Note: New emoticons won't work on non-ddnet servers
