Replace pain long sound in freeze

Post by ChillerDragon »

Imo the pain long sound a tee makes if he fires a weapon in freeze is not too nice ._.
especially if players nearby are hammerflying dummys.
I know there are many players out there who don't care about this topic at all because they don't play with sound ... please don't just vote NO then.
I think sound can be very usefull while waiting for help far in race. You can do some other stuff while waiting and the sound of alive tees tells you the journey goes on. But if someone in the freeze next to you is a hammerflying dummy this can be annoying to hear this sound in a never ending loop.

That is why i changed the sound clientside to sfx_pickup_hrt-01.wv which is the sound you get on touching health.
But i suggest to change it in general because im sure many people are just too lazy or don't know how to change their sound but they also get annoyed by it.
I choose sfx_pickup_hrt-01.wv because it is not too loud and i could hear it the whole day. But some players use this sound as a help cry. So the pain sound makes some sense to me because it is a cry for help. But we could also use vo_teefault_pain_short-01.wv instead which is a bit shorter and nicer to hear in a loop.

And the third sound i think fitts better is wp_noammo-01.wv because this sound segnalizes that you cant shout (technically because you have no ammo (which super technically is the case in freeze) and not because you are freezed) which makes sense in freeze and is also an nice to hear sound compared to vo_teefault_pain_long-01.wv (which is the sound in freeze atm).

tl;dr

i suggest to replace annoying vo_teefault_pain_long-01.wv sound in freeze with:
- sfx_pickup_hrt-01.wv
or
- wp_noammo-01.wv
or
- vo_teefault_pain_short-01.wv

if you don't know these sounds you can find em in teewoods/data/audio

isn't it not easy to just change the names of the mp3 files so you only got another sound for that problem?

no idea if it is possible, but i think that is just an easy solution.

If I read that correctly he already changed it like that for his personal usage. So renaming an existing sound-file (or even deleting it) should deifintely work. This thread seems to be more like an overall suggestion to make it a standard change for all :p

So, I never played with sound. Therefore I can't really contribute to that topic :>
However, as long as there are these individual possiblities with renaming or deleting the soundfiles, there is imo no need to force the change for everyone .__. It should just stay like it is now and everyone can customize it :)

The poll seems to support this, but let's wait for more opinions.

Yes it is...
And yes as Index said i already did it (and also wrote it in the opening thread xd). But imo it makes sense to change it serverside because the sound is too long and loud. Why should all people mix up their client sounds if we could simply change it serverside. Isn't the best hack to rename mp3 files because in other mods this sound might fitt.

But it looks like people want to keep the long and painfull sound xd
