|*KoG*| Choose next development project

Hi all!

We used to have a lot of new ideas in our mind about modifying |*KoG*| servers, but we don't get enough feedback, so I decided to make a post here. If you have any ideas how to make Gores more fun - please, tell us.

For example the last modifications were:
1. |*KoG*| Quests - making new challenges to master the map and get additional points: http://qshar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=546
For example: Don't use hammer during race; Don't get freezed more then once in a minute; Finish the map without guns; Touch Heart / Shield that are in some location that is hard to catch; Finish map in big team etc.

2. Killban System. Implement killban system instead of ban and kick votes.
Replace ban vote with killban system. It means that the player doesn't get banned or kicked. He can continue to play, but during next 15 minutes he can't kill/re-spawn/re-enter the game and can't vote. This was made to avoid fun-votes and to punish blockers. As an additional option the player was also muted for 15 minutes.

3. And many others like Moving Tiles, Teleport-rocket, Race-Gores, Daily Events etc.

Unfortunately we don't have as many players as DDNet so we don't get much feedback. That's why I'd like to ask DDNet community if they have any new interesting ideas.

Any new ideas are required.


No matter how impossible it may sound.
New objects, special weapons, more moving tiles, map modifications, bullet-proof players, challenges etc.

p.s. We know that hi_lеutе dislikes us, so I want to kindly ask him to stay away from this topic.

So now it is time for you to decide which next development project is gonna happen.

2. Map Quests - Develop more map quests and apply them on existing maps.

4. Block-Race - New idea in Block-Race direction

Players are racing a very easy Gores map, the first one who finishes it will win. During the map there will be many block spots, so in every moment player can press hotkey and he will be teleported to the block position. Each block position will have its special weapons: Rocket will switch the players, normal gun will push victims away, one more rocket will freeze for 1 second, laser will slow down player's speed etc.

5. Interactive map - Develop Client with hook prediction to avoid small lag in Interactive map mod.

Implement Interactive map modification for DDRace Network and work on Client with prediction. Hard work.

6. Interactive mod for Vanilla - Create vanilla servers with moving objects.

7. 1 vs 1 Gores Tournaments - Re-develop 1 vs 1 tournaments as we used to have in 2014. Make them automatic and weekly.

Two player are racing the same easy gores part. The first one who crosses the finish will win round 1. In round 2 losing player will play on the same part and winning player will race a bit harder one. If player won round 2, he won the competition. This modification requires both: speed and careful race. Each player decides himself if he wants to risk and go faster. Up to 64 players will participate in tournaments, first 3 places get reward. It is also possible to add some special weapons to make more fun.

8. Gores for unskilled players - Create several very easy maps.

In this case instead of working on new modifications, I'll put effort in creating few very easy maps with many platforms.

9. Daily Events - Implement new features to the Daiily Events.

Everyday at 19:00 There is a Daily Event. During the race players can't re-spawn, so they have only 1 chance to finish the map. We can add some features to make daily events more fun and unpredictable, such as freezing every minute, auto-rescue when the half time will pass, getting helpful weapons at a specific time of the race etc.

10. Team challenges - Team challenges by keks.

Well, I'm really bad and I'm pretty sure I never managed to finish any map.
I find it really frustrating to restart constantly and I don't care about points.

With that in mind, I'd love a "noob-mode". Just a command that pushes me out of freeze and unfreezes me, for instance.
In return, disable time/points for this run and make it usable only in solo/team.
or maybe I just need to git gud ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what you want is called /r (/rescue) and exists on some servers

although i really agree that it would be great for beginners if you managed to only enable /r in team and remove their time as soon as they use it
right now if you wanna play gores with beginners you literally have to avoid kog servers because it will be too hard and not fun at all for them, forcing you to play on some bad /r servers..

Enabling /r in a specific "noob-team" is a good idea to think about. I'm still not sure if players have enough effort to finish the map if they get nothing for that.

We had an idea to run the server with only easy Gores maps. There are about 10-20 maps that are very good for beginners. Does it solve the problem?

Hows about a weapon with a suction ability.

- The weapon can pull in a tee (Closest one) and has to be launched through a certain door, probably a laser door. (Can also pull a tee through a door)
- You could add objectives to get to the gun.
- The gun can only hold 1 or 2 charges (Maybe more if the mapper wants that, then they use a switch to define how many).
- Once all charges have been used, you lose the gun.
- Up to you if this affects the physics against the tee who has used the suction gun.
- Maybe you could think about other things this suction gun could be used for, if its useful, or fun.
- Could be used as a sort of 'Basket ball effect.' I.E Shooting a tee to an otherwise unreachable position so that it allows you to advance.
- To make the gun reliable, it might need a lock on mechanism, so you can make sure you are pulling in the correct tee.
- This could be modified very nicely with dummy gores.

This would obviously require 2 people at least. This is just a rough idea. Maybe it could be modified and elaborated on.


Also, what about maps with no collision on? Too often i die from bouncing into tees. This would also allow for other saving mechanisms in tighter spots.

If I understood you correct, in basics it is almost the same as shotgun, right?

It is already exists. There are Game tiles on the map that enables/disables collision between players. Tiles #72, #88, #104 from https://ddnet.tw/explain/

It is not the same as a shotgun. A shotgun has a laser that will pull a tee in a certain direction. The suction gun would be able to hold the tee in the gun, and able to launch it else where. It would be like using the force from star wars, except you have a gun for it.

I think it would definitely help.
KoG doesn't have as many servers as DDNet, so its often not possible to just go to any empty server and vote an easy map.

Also, it would be great if those beginner maps were sorted by difficulty (in the voting panel) or if there were some recommended maps at the top. I have tried some 1* maps but I still found those pretty hard.. but maybe I'm just exceptionally bad at gores x)

Maybe you could also host some modded maps with TP there? I enjoyed FlipLipp10 on DDNet

Don't listen to SPSomeone, he is just troll :D
I like the quests and killban features, its really something new.
I don't play on KoG much, but gores maps are fun too, if you racing with many tees, saving each other.
And yeah, if there will be a server with easy maps it would be helpful, coz sometimes I enter the server and can't go far coz of really hard parts
