Strong hook for all?

Strong hook for all?

Hey, i asked a few players (actually 2 but psssh) if they would like it, if everybody has strong hook.
Long time ago deen had implemented strong hook for all. I am not sure if it was well coded (maybe there was a prediction bug or something like that). Well i am not an expert about the technical stuff.
An issue: what about strong hook for all at old maps? It would destroy all speedruns because you are often faster, if everybody has strong (especially at ddmax maps). So maybe this makes only sense for t0 or maybe this only makes sense on new maps with "new" records.
There might be parts, which are only possible with weak hook (i think so, i dont have an example). So a map command might be needed.
Some hammerflys are easier if both have strong (in case of "forced" swaps).

So what do you think about this? Tell us your opinion ;) (#strongforall?)

I actually enjoy playing with weak (Keeps mechanics fresh)
But eh? it would be only for ddrace so i don't see why not.

in my team im usually the one with weak hook and playing with it most of the time it does make a biig difference when playing with strong BUT i think for the sake of improving its fun trying to do harder parts with weak figuring out a way of doing it with weak

im kinda on the fence about this but forcing both to have strong is a heave decision

Has been discussed dozens of times....result was always a 'no'.

the bugfix for it didn't fix the weak/strong hammerflying thing, so basically you can't know who will be enable to start the speedfly properly or who will have to drive the parts which makes it rly annoying, which is why deen took it away quickly after implementing it

also some parts have weak/strong required (ye that can be fixed with /spec but then it enables some cheats in a few maps).. but i guess the main problem is the fix not completely fixing it

edit: i also forgot it would be extremly unfair to every single speedrun made until then since they had to deal with weak/strong mechanic thus being slower on some parts than a 2 strong-hooks team would be

Weak is annoying, but it's been in ddace since the beginning, and I feel like it's a core mechanic that shouldn't be messed with. If a mapper wants both players to be able to have strong (albeit not simultaneously), he or she can permit /spec.

I don't really like the idea, the difference of weak/strong hook is subtile but a interesting feature.
There are surely some advantages with always strong, but for me that would just reduce the complexity of the game. It just feels wrong to disable it now after soo many years. It was like always there :o Furthermore you already wrote about other potential downsides.

However, that's just my opinion, here a few other threads about it (probably more) :>

The most important thing is, that you can use some little bugs with weak for example To cross killtiles hehehehe :D
