Faker On DDnet//Protection
Faker On DDnet//Protection
Hey
Last week I met a guy on DDnet. We started to race and later on I failed. Then he has quit and he changed his name to "Prozzle" (like mine). And he blocked and harassed other players.
So I got an idea: Fake Protection.
Maybe it´s possible to have a Plugin or something else to register with a password and the username/tee name. And later you can /login [Teename] [Password]. (If its to long you can also bind it.

Re: Faker On DDnet//Protection
Imagine DDNet had this kind of fake protection. You would never have heard about it as a new player, you just come on the server and start playing after all. After some time someone decides he likes your name, and will just register it, so you can't use it anymore. I think this causes more problems than it solves.

Re: Faker On DDnet//Protection
I think this would be the best way to solve the problem:
If you want to protect your name their have to be other players on the server who approve that you are the player you pretend to be. I don't know how much players would be a good choice. I guess 5 would be totally fine. Furthermore the approving players need protected names already. With that rule we can prevent fakers from just taking their 5 friends and faking other players together. With these rules we can probably keep only nice players with protected names who only give other nice players protected names.
Example how it could work:
At the start an admin gives 20 players he knows protected names. Then a lot of people would ask them to get also protected names. The 20 players would only give a protected name to a player if they were really sure that the asking player isn't faking. They would ask him questions to check if he is the real one. So if a player would get his protected name he would be happy and he would feel responsible for giving wrong people protected names.
Technical side:
To make it user friendly we could only make one command let's call it "/name". With just calling "/name" you would get a help how to use it. There would be options to this command like "login [PASSWORD]", "protect [PASSWORD]", "allow [PLAYER]". Let's say a player called DoNe wants to get a protected name. DoNe would first search for 5 players who have one already. Then he would execute "/name protect mysuperpassword". After that he would ask the 5 players to allow him protecting his name. If the 5 players made sure that he isn't faking they would all execute "/name allow DoNe". Now everytime DoNe joins a server he would have to execute "/name login mysuperpassword" to be able to play. DoNe would be really happy about his new protected name and he would soon start to help other players to get protected names too.
Conclusion:
Only people with some friends and some awareness would be able to get protected names. But I think thats fine because they are the ones who really care about their names. It would be complicated but "/save" was complicated too and just like "/save" you would not have to use the feature. But like everything it isn't totally save and it would cause some complaints. But it would in any case cause less complaints than the first idea.
Please give me feedback on this idea. You could just write "I think it would help." or "I think it wouldn't help.". I'm happy about every answer or even better ideas how to solve the problem.

Faking is rather an uncommon thing. Just ignore it and if problems appear clarify the problem

Dont like the idea to log in everytime I join a server. It prevents people to play. I think people play teewords to have fun but not to verify if other Tees are fakers or not. Account system is against teeworld and its kiss principle.
I heard before about this system to verify if people are reliable or not. But cant remember. Maybe you could help me.

Re: Faker On DDnet//Protection
could log in with an automatic api token like sushirace. everyone else would be "guest" status. sure people can steal up names, but far more annoying problem is wondering if "deen" is really deen, etc. everyone on usa has liked this idea but i understand why it wouldn't be implemented, it's elaborate.
