Dummy behavior between version 3.8.1 and above

Post by Zary »

I have noticed that dummy behaves diferentre way between version 3.8.1 and 3.8.3 (and above).

For example: when the dummy is set to move to the right and then I want make the change with the dummy to control it, in version 8.3.1 I can press the A key (move left) to stop the movement of the dummy had set (to the right). But in version 3.8.3 (and above) when making the change to the dummy, I must press the key D (move right) again to stop the dummy movement, otherwise will not stop and will continue moving to the right. And if you dont remember that (the movement set to the dummy) in 3.8.3 version (and above), you maybe lost control of the dummy and maybe you die or fall in a freez zone, its confuse. But in 3.8.1 version you can press any key to stop the movement set to the dummy, easy to do.

I do not know if that is normal behavior of the dummy but personally I do not like and for that reason I continue using version 3.8.1 of the client.

Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand what I want try to explain.

P.D.: btw im on linux (Ubuntu 12.04) and use the Linux_x86_64 client.

Have you bound dummy switch to the mouse? Try binding it to a key. That removes some of the bugginess.

But in general it's wanted that the dummy keeps pressing keys you pressed while switching. This allows stuff like dummy drag. Maybe just stop pressing the key before switching?

yes i have my binds in the mouse to switch with the dummy and hammerfly with the dummy, i dont use the keyboard for this binds.

that would be the problem?

Try with keyboard. Mouse binds cause some problems strangely. I'm not sure how to fix that, but haven't looked into it.

Right, the problem is when you want to stop that action (after swithing): move left, right, jump or some mixed action. You must do the same action to stop the dummy's movement, i mean if your action was go right, then you must press D key (go right again) to stop the dummy and does not work with other key, for example go left (A key) to stop it (like 3.8.1) instead to do the same action to stop it (3.8.3 and above). If you forgget what action or movement was done for the dummy movment and you want stop it, well that maybe was dangerous, for example you could fall down on freez zone before to remember what action or moevement was done to stop the dummy.

Yeah it's a problem. But I also think that dummies shouldn't become machines with better skills than the players :D. I think the purpose of dummies is to test maps and maybe to play easy maps alone (but there are solo servers when you are alone and DDrace is for multiple player, we need to keep that in mind)
