Map for real beginners

Post by Welf »

Since teeworlds got released on steam, we are thinking about maps for real beginners. I just played the map Seasons (it is 1* Novice) with a random real beginner and i recorded it.
If you want to make a map for beginners, you should take a look at it, then you can imagine what a real beginner can do and what he can't do.
Thanks to the guy who actually is in this demo, you did a good job (btw. also the climb part right after the start was a problem for him, that was the reason why i started recording ^^)

If we want the community to grow, we need maps for players like him, not for players like us. More maps for beginners wont hurt anybody ;)

Thanks for watching^^

We could even make a real Beginner server, maybe use the current Novice name and instead rename Novice to Easy, because it's hard for noobs to figure out whether they're playing Novice 1 star or 5 stars (or what that even means).

That is a good idea, but i think we might need some more maps for such a server (i estimate we got 5-10 maps for such a server)
For me it looks like noobs are only learning while playing too hard maps and getting carried, that would be changed then ;)

As noob you should firstly play Vanilla or another simple mod, DDrace is just too complex.

true what leute says, but also we need a really really easy map tho. cus if they dont know anyone that plays ddrace and play any of the novice maps alone, its allmost impossible to do even just 1 part.

On the vanilla servers they compete against pros (as far as i know vanilla servers are full of casuals), there are some people who started with ddrace and we can catch new players joining our servers ;)

Just think about maps 15830158920141241586910241 years ago. They were all easy and not really faily. Hardcore 2 was considered a very hard map for many... now it's 1* oldschool and you are considered a "noob" when you don't finish it first try within 10 minutes blindfolded standing on 1 foot playing with 3 fingers only.
A noob from today would have been considered a good player 15830158920141241586910241 years ago. That's because maps are way harder now and all the features and new commands (binds) are very confusing for newbies.

Meaning I'm really for a beginner server with very easy maps only.

i was playing DM yesterday and they were compleat noobs, also the filters is what stopping them to find DDrace, so they will automaticly just play DM & CTF untill they figure out how to deactive the filters.

I agree with a super easy map. Nevertheless I like seasons because there are all important things of ddrace shown.

You did a good job Welf. Every beginner in ddrace need a pro to show them things and help. I for myself remember playing first time ddrace on multimap. Took me more than 5 minutes to do this part with /r !

(I had to since we was just 2 then) And I guess thats the point why people keep playing ddrace. Almost everyone had this ONE person who helped just you.
btw Welf not very nice to let the beginner do the drag part with weak... :)

Only 5? Oh damn you, I needed more xD Anyway, even though we're against rescue command on official servers (which I fully understand as there are way too much egos even w/o making them think that they can do everything alone by using simple command) it was really good way to learn imo :P
