Changes to Map Testing

Over the last few months, I have been hearing people’s feedback, reading reactions to map releases and having conversations with individual players. It seemed like large parts of the community were unhappy about the current Map Testing system therefore I have decided to change how we decide about releasing maps.

Instead of largely myself deciding, a group of trusted, experienced players that widely represent the playerbase will ensure predictions are more accurate and less biased, as fair as possible decisions are made. This group consist of:
  • Amu~Cookie
  • Freezestyler
  • jao
  • Kenzo
  • Kicker
  • meew'
  • Oblique.
  • Ryozuki
  • Shawn.
To make sure everything goes in the right direction and no absurd decisions are made, I will be overseeing the whole process. At the beginning I will also share my opinion and take part in discussions, however, I plan to step back from that later.

So how does it work?
Additionally to the normal testing done by our Testers, maps have to be approved by the above mentioned group. Each week ~3 maps will be handled which will be choosen based on the time they're waiting, their quality and how close they're to be "ready for release". Approved map's threads will be made sticky to maintain a good overview.
To not unnecessarily delay the process, Testers will continue to filter too low quality maps. Also, keep in mind that maps still need to comply with the Mapper Rules to be released.

I'm looking forward to push more changes in regard to Map Testing later. If you have questions on how the new system functions, feel free to ask in this thread.

Thank you for your feedback.

It turned out as I expected it to be:
Now people who are known for being rage kids and/or aren't related to mapping/testing in any way are randomly chosen to be the elitists who decide about the releases, while all other people and especially testers(!) can stop posting here. Awesome!

is it a good idea to add to the groups of people that there are not even 3 released maps ?and even better is to add a top points, I hope you will follow their "honest decisions"

Why does it matter how many maps one has released yet? I also don't see why having someone who has "top points" would be bad, I tried to somewhat balance the people in the group.

this looks bad for solo maps, judging by the playernames

Good to see progress on map testing. Many might not realize how hard work map testing, communication with mappers and release decisions are. While I could develop DDNet and run the servers on my own for some time, I got totally exhausted after short periods of map testing. Huge thanks to everyone involved in making sure that our players get to play fun new maps!

How do you propose it should be done Hi_leute.

I'm sure Jao is only doing this to benefit the community.
