Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
I just thought about it at the "last" chance to keep ddnet running, sadly ive no idea how to keep a srv allive etc etc so im not really useful
ALSO remember DDMAX! noother left and tsin just released maps etc, i know, now we got much more features etc etc but what if we leave it all now and just release maps? therewhile someone could learn how to improve the features or maybe you will come back once and just keep working a little on features nothing more? We all had fun that way on ddmax for years, that could happen with ddnet aswell, i wish so.

Well. As I am pretty sure that deen won't lay DDNet to our hands I still want to make a little announcement.
If DDNet will actually go down on 10.1, we will also host a complete clone of DDNet GER for a specific period of time. All of your scores will still be there, we managed to do the cloning already.
I hope someone will be found to keep DDNet running meanwhile.

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
Well, it was an intense evening here :o
The complete shutdown was a huge surprise and I have to admit that your way of doing it, deen, was not really smart. For me it was not so obvious that financial help and good organization is needed so badly. Of couse there were structure changes and so on. But that complete shtudown.. totally unexpeceted. With an proper announcement (for all) and some further explanations some weeks ago, I'm sure we would have already found a better solution by now. Furthermore I think your expectations for a future server admin are just too high. There are many people that willinglty want to help and invest time in the project. They just seem to be not trustfully enough for you to give the whole project to them. Yea, I kinda understand that, but maybe you should just change some of your opinios and lower the standards.
Again, that's just my opinion, as I never experienced the hard work behind a server administration.
However, it all happened now and of course I'm thankful for all the things you and all the other people did for ddnet in the past two years.
Thank you deen, your were amazing :D
Thank you to all the mappers, testers, sponsors and players.
I met soo many lovely people here <333 I'm just happy to spent 32535 days (and nights lol) on these awesome servers playing beautiful maps with people I would definitely miss now.
So, let's focus on the here and now! I'm sure this won't be the end of DDRace.
EnCore servers died, DDmax died and ddrace itself is still a popular modification. So, it's just a matter of time.
Thanks to the 'group of people, already working on a solution'.
If there is anything more to help, even financial support.
I'm more than happy to support the best game I've ever played and the best community I've ever meet.
Together we will keep that alive, I'll help (more than I did with the race server lol) :>

Is the forum still alive or will it disappear or be relocated in the future? :o

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
In theory deen only would need to give the database of the forum to this group. So especially the many nice and useful threads (like the tutorials and so) could stay.Index wrote: Is the forum still alive or will it disappear or be relocated in the future?

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
What I don't really get. Only a few months ago there was the struggle about the funding and now after most of it is paid DDnet shall stop... I would feel cheated if I donated any money to a project that would end a few moments later. It leaves a bad impression on me
Then it's been said "nobody wanted to help", "asked so often"... well, I didn't even realise there were problems at all... new admins had been added and dunno.. I'm not a forum maniac..
Bye!

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
All in all I still paid more for DDNet servers than was donated to me, but I guess I could still pay back the donations if people feel cheated. Will have to see if I can scratch together enough money for that. Actually that's why I didn't accept donations for a long time, so that DDNet can be shut down without having to worry about this.imp wrote:What I don't really get. Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
I never realised that were problems, but i just can't understand, you didn't putted adminds to do your work? also there were donations a imp said they were paid, what's wrong?
Tournaments? wasn't east making them?
i rly cant understand
Deen, i think you shouldn't give back donations (because, they are optional and for help), and i know you paid more but, isn't that normal? you made a rly big project, so if you didn't wanted to pay more just announce that we need donations to survive?
Tell me if im wrong
Edit: deen, i rly appreciate your work, you gave me a lot of fun (men, rly, you gave me more than 1000 hours of fun, i couldnt never pay that)
So, have a fun life with your study, you already did much for us, but you can still do something that maybe isnt rly hard to do, just give the full administration to the current admins?
Pls, don't just destroy ddnet, there are people that ddnet is they current hobby, somethink that makes her his life happy, could you destroy that?
Anyway gl hf with your study, i will always remember you

Re: DDNet Shutdown - What Now?
There is no one to keep DDNet servers running, fixing them if something goes wrong, setting up new servers, etc. east didn't want to do any more tournaments, I don't have anyone else capable of doing these things. So if I go on my Europe trip in 2 weeks and something is wrong with the servers, no one can fix it. (Something goes wrong quite often.) That's what I'm scared of and why I'd rather shut down DDNet than have huge problems for which I stay responsible.Ryozuki wrote:I never realised that were problems, but i just can't understand, you didn't putted adminds to do your work? also there were donations a imp said they were paid, what's wrong?
