Don't worry, it's fine. ^^ I know that, but a person with an IT background should be able to handle this after spending some time reading and browsing the DDNet structure. That's why I proposed gr33nt3a as an admin and offered my help. ^^ He said he's a software developer, so I'm assuming he knows most of the deen's list. I know C++, Python and SQL. Also SH scripts basics too, but as I don't really know sed and awk, I don't wanna say that I can write everything in SH - but for more complicated things it's faster to use Python anyway.

Of course, nobody would know the whole system at deen's level after a few days, but given some time somebody should be able to learn how to maintain DDNet. Keep in mind, that IT background helps a lot and deen made wonderful checklists - for example, after reading the DDNet script about the map release, I should already be able to reproduce it properly, even though I read it for the first time.

So I think we should wait a bit more (deen, please, give us just a bit more time) and organize a team of people who can help maintaining the technical stuff. It would probably be better to have more technical admins, because the fact that releasing a map isn't really hard for an IT person, doesn't mean that doing map releases, updates, tournaments, &c. isn't exhausting. As you said, it's really hard to do it alone - which by the way shows how great job deen was doing for the whole time.

I read the scripts, those tournament and map releases thing, seems not to be much work....
If you do it one or two times, it will go really quick..

The problem is that you have to do them carefully and check if everything's ok. This greatly increases the time (and stamina) cost of every procedure.
Also, you have to be capable of fixing things if anything goes bad, so the Linux administration knowledge is necessary.

At least cssh exists, otherwise some commands would have to be reproduced on every server manually.

I think just broadcasting while tournament is much of work to spec all srv :D
But i would be happy with a tournamt without broadcasting too.

This might take maximum 1h a day, which is like nothing

Stop judging things you don't know or have no idea how it's working.

You are a toxic young man, I am pretty sure the attitude you have (and not only you) is part of the reason deen is quitting today ddnet.
Maybe one day you'll learn what is respect, cause apprently, you've never even heard of that work so far...

laxa:

I don't think that this will lead discussion in a productive way.

And yet I also think that maintenance of dozen of servers of project with simple architecture and without very special requirements won't take more than 1-2 hours per day in average. (Yet it still may be significant time for someone who live in large city and have a job :) ). Deen also did sw development, which generally requires more time and concentration and, I suppose, was his major timecruncher.
