And it does work by itself? Some examples on what is different, please.

It does not work by itself, you have to type commands to install new things. When you see that 90% of people don't even read instructions on medication or so, don't expect them to read things for their computer.

One personnal example : Linux couldn't make the Wifi work on my computer, it worked great with Windows. Why would i bother?

You don't need to type any command, go to ubuntu software center and you can search any app you want, and install with a click.

Also i didn't had any issues with wifi.

On Windows you don't need a software center, cause all software needed is already installed. Most people aren't nerds like you are who invest much time in their system. They just want a running one, that's it.

The thing is, that you also get a running system with Ubuntu. I still don't get what's different.

I kinda understand hi_leute, its still different :o You get a relatively easy running system, but when you are soo used to Windows even that might seem odd in the beginning. Everythings is avaiable and ready to install. But if you're a total technical nub, even that should be too hard sometimes.
With that said, there are surely really good options for beginner-friendly linux systems. If you want to use an windows-alternative there are options. Also thanks for the recommendation, Ryozuki :3

However, I'll stay with my earlier conclusion for now: Linux is a great option for certain tasks and another user experience. So, if I should really setup a linux-based system someday, then I'll go full nerd: Arch Linux, i3 and minimal looks xdd
That's certainly not the solution we were looking for. But thanks anyways for this interesting discussion :)

You should definitely do that. I use i3 for ~1 year (but on Debian) and it's really great and fully customizable :P

Ryozuki, consider updating instructions to build with cmake instead of bam.

Code: Select all

cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release -DMYSQL=ON $CODEDIR && make
