Care for your Time manipulates your race time when you fail (it adds some seconds). So the 380 hours on that map are not actual playtime, you might want to exclude this map for the worst time award. Oh right ! I didn't know these tiles existed. So yes, the official "play time" record is 40 hours in...

Ask around on Discord #developer channel, there are a few people who can find their way around the code. Or just try stuff out randomly, search for keywords that interest you. Or even check changes on Github that did something similar to what you intend to do.

That confirms my guess that it's your GPU settings, not DDNet.

Change the settings in your GPU driver about whether to use dedicated or integrated graphics, try disabling power saving in the GPU driver when DDNet is running. Try out gfx_opengl3 with 0 or 1 (needs a client restart). Or even try updating your graphics driver. You can also try turning off scaling....
